Piloting a New Lunch and Recess Plan

Dear RG Parents & Guardians,

I am contacting you because I want to tell you about an exciting new lunch and recess plan that we are piloting starting the month of February. This program is currently running with a high level of success at Chambers Elementary School.

This new sensory-based format is designed to increase independence.

Students will:

• Sit wherever they want
• Play with students from other classes in their grade
• Eat in a calmer setting with low lighting using lower voices
• Have greater freedom to eat at their own pace
• Go outside for recess when they are finished eating

Overall, students will have greater autonomy but with clear expectations. To accomplish this, staff will be meeting with students to educate them on this new program.

This change will take some time to iron out, but we are excited and appreciate your support.
